ICT Technician: Networks (LAN) – Johannesburg – 12 Month FTC
Salary: R354,448.08pa CTC
Overview:
The ICT Technician: Networks (LAN) is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing the Local Area Network (LAN) infrastructure to ensure reliable and secure network connectivity.
The role includes the configuration, monitoring, and support of networking devices, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points, while ensuring compliance with ICT policies and security standards.
Minimum Requirements and Experience:
- National Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Certification in CompTIA N+
- ITIL Foundation will be advantageous.
- CompTIA Cloud+ Certification will be an advantage
- 1+ years of experience in LAN administration and support.
- 1+ years of experience with structured cabling, network configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Exposure to cloud networking (Azure) is an advantage.
- Knowledge of LAN Technologies:
- Ethernet, Wi-Fi, VLANs, VPNs, Quality of Service (QoS) and routing protocols
- Knowledge of Networking Devices:
- Switches, routers, firewalls, and access points
- Knowledge of Network Security:
- Firewalls, VPNs and access control lists (ACLs).
- Mobile connection (Enterprise mobility solutions).
- VoIP Technologies and Unified Communications:
- Microsoft Teams, WebEx, and other collaboration tools.
Key Performance Areas:
Network & system support:
- Assist in network troubleshooting, including LAN connectivity, access issues, identifying hardware or software faults.
- Support VoIP phone system configurations and troubleshooting.
- Configure and maintain printer, scanner, and other peripheral devices.
- Collaborate with the IT team to ensure compliance with IT policies and procedures.
- Respond to and resolve network-related service desk tickets in a timely manner.
- Install, configure, and maintain LAN infrastructure, including network switches, routers, and wireless access points.
- Ensure network devices are correctly configured for optimal performance and security.
- Support the setup of new office locations and relocation, including cabling and network hardware deployment.
- Assist the ICT Specialist with ICT audits on systems and infrastructure management.
Mobile connection maintenance & support:
- Maintain and support mobile data and SIM card allocation for staff.
- Troubleshoot mobile connectivity issues and ensure reliable mobile data service.
- Coordinate with service providers for mobile contract renewals, provisioning, and troubleshooting.
- Ensure compliance with mobile data usage prescripts.
VoIP Support:
- Support and maintain VoIP telephony systems, including IP phones and softphones.
- Troubleshoot VoIP-related issues, including call quality, dropped calls, and latency.
- Configure VoIP endpoints, extensions, and call routing settings.
- Work with service providers to resolve VoIP service disruptions.
Technical support:
- Provide on-call support (telephone, face-to-face and online support on systems)
- Investigate and follow up on all incidents logged on the fault logging system
- Provide desktop technical support
- Coordinate with vendors for the procurement, repair, and maintenance of network, mobile and VoIP.
