Assistant Professional Officer: Environmental Education Officer
Location: Cape Town
Our client is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Assistant Professional Officer: Environmental Education Officer to join their team in Cape Town starting 2 January – 30 June 2026. The successful employee will assist with the implementation of programmes. Assist with the continuation and smooth running of environmental, smart living, marine and coastal education programmes that contribute to the City’s sustainability initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordination and hosting of Smart Living, Environmental Education and Coastal programmes, including guided tours.
- Development, updating, and dissemination of educational and resource materials.
- Researching and designing new educational programmes and supporting materials.
- Scheduling school group bookings and arranging venues such as the Smart Living Education Centre and EEG Centre.
- Monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on the effectiveness of education programmes.
- Setting up, supporting, and presenting at environmental events and expos.
- Liaising and communicating with stakeholders, visitors, schools, and community groups.
- Compiling monthly reports based on statistics, attendance, and scheduling.
- Providing operational support and assisting with daily centre activities as required.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
- A relevant 3-year tertiary qualification (B-Degree or National Diploma in Environmental Management or related field).
- Computer literacy (MS Office suite).
Experience (1–3 years) in:
- Coordinating and hosting education programmes.
- Resource development and content creation.
- Tour guiding and facilitation.
- Engaging with the public, schools, visitors, and stakeholders.
- Supporting the development and curation of exhibitions.
Additional Skills & Competencies
- Strong computer skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Office.
- Excellent administration and record-keeping abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent facilitation and presentation skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Passion for environmental sustainability and education.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse target groups.
- Competent in data capturing and processing.
- A valid driver’s licence is advantageous (preferred).
- First Aid Level 1 is advantageous.
- Willingness to work after hours or on weekends when required.
