Assistant Conservation Officer – Atlanic/Falsebay

 Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Conservation Officer to join their team! As an Assistant Conservation Officer, you will play a critical role in supporting the rescue/capture of marine animals including rabid seals, baboons, penguins, etc. Compliance at public slipways and assist with coastal water quality monitoring and sampling. This is a short-term intervention for urgent capacity needs (contract basis 11 May – June2026)
 
Key Responsibilities:
        • Monitoring and reporting on compliance with regard to National Acts, municipal by-laws and the provincial nature conservation ordinance within the area.
        • Conservation enforcement and compliance administration tasks to support the achievement of conservation and enforcement compliance.
        • Marine and Coastal Adjacent Species Rescue and Conservation: Supporting the teams tasked with looking after the marine and other species under Coastal Management’s jurisdiction.
        • Water Quality: Assisting with maintaining water quality along the coast and coastal adjacent bodies of water by assisting with daily sampling.

Requirements:
        • A relevant 3 year qualification or degree in Nature conservation or Ecological Restoration and Management
        • At least 12 months relevant experience or scientific research experience.
        • Computer Literacry
        • Valid driver’s license
        • Able bodied and willing to work in all weather conditions
        • Willing and able to go into the sea and other water bodies
