Chief Mechanic : – Germiston –
Permanent – Salary: Negotiable
 
 Purpose of the Job:
A Chief Mechanic oversees vehicle and equipment maintenance, ensuring safety and efficiency while managing a team of assistant mechanics. This role may require working outside of regular hours to address urgent repair or maintenance needs.
 
Responsibilities:
 
Maintenance Oversight:
  • Ensure the proper maintenance of all company vehicles and equipment, performing preventive maintenance to guarantee reliability and availability.
Team Management:
  • Lead and supervise a team of mechanics, providing guidance, support, and technical expertise. Delegate tasks effectively to ensure optimal workflow.
Repairs and Diagnostics:
  • Perform advanced mechanical repairs and diagnostics on various vehicles, conducting thorough inspections of completed repairs to meet company and industry standards.
Training and Development:
  • Train new team members on repair techniques and safety protocols and provide ongoing training to existing staff to keep them updated on industry advancements.
  • Inventory Management: Manage the inventory of automotive parts and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and coordinating with purchasing departments for orders as needed.
Customer Interaction:
  • Interact with customers to discuss vehicle issues, explain repair procedures, and address any concerns, ensuring excellent customer service.
Safety Compliance:
  • Promote safety standards by using proper tools, wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintaining a clean work environment. Qualifications and Experience
 
Minimum Requirements:
 
Experience:
    • Significant experience in automotive repair and maintenance, with a strong understanding of mechanical systems.
Leadership Skills:
    • Proven ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in diagnostic tools and repair techniques for various vehicle types.
Communication Skills:
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members and customers.
