Data Analyst / Statistician – Permanent – Pretoria
Salary: Market related
Purpose of the role:
To systematically examine, cleanse, transform, and interpret data to uncover insights, patterns, and trend that can be used to draw conclusions and inform decision-making.
The Data Analyst will use statistical techniques and tools to collect, analyze, and interpret the data, ultimately providing insights that can help The Company and municipalities to make informed decisions.
Minimum Requirements and Experience:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- A diploma or other certifications can be viable alternatives.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in data analytics or a related role.
- This experience should include demonstrated proficiency in data manipulation, statistical analysis, and data visualization tools.
- Understanding of the local government sector
- Proficiency in using tools like Excel for data analysis.
- Advance skills in MS Office

- Statistical Analysis: Strong understanding of statistical concepts and methods.
- Data Cleaning and Preparation: Ability to clean, transform, and prepare data for analysis.
- Data Analysis and Exploration: Use statistical methods and techniques to explore and analyze data, identifying patterns, trends, and relationships within the dataset.
Key Performance Areas:
Data Analysis:
Support data collection initiatives for various programmes and projects inclusive of the Municipal Capabilities Assessment (MCA), Municipal Capabilities Outcomes Monitoring Tool (MCOMT), Local Government Professionalisation Metrics (LGPM) and Municipal Socio-Economic Profiles (MSEP).
Data Analysis
- Drive and support data analysis initiatives based on the processed data (information) and generation of insights. This entails:
- Assigning Meaning: establishing what the numbers represent and how they relate to each other.
- Identifying Patterns and Trends: analyzing the data to see if there are any recurring patterns, shifts, or relationships that provide insights.
- Drawing Conclusions: using the insights gained from data interpretation to formulate conclusions, which can be used to inform decision-making or further research.
- Actionable Insights: use the interpreted data to generate actionable insights that can be used to improve processes, make better decisions, or inform future research.
- Methods: utilize various statistical and logical techniques, including descriptive statistics to conduct the analysis.
- Tools: employ various software and tools, such as Excel, SPSS, R, Python, and specialized data analysis software to conduct the analysis.
2. Data analysis outputs:
- Drive and support compilation of numerous information and intelligence outputs such as reports, municipal socio-economic profiles, municipal briefs, presentations etc.
- Reports: to present data in tables and charts, summarizing key findings.
- Visualizations: use graphs, charts, and other visual representations to compare the datasets, identify relationships, discover hidden insights and to communicate data effectively. Visualizations can be used to compare datasets, identify relationships, and discover hidden insights.
- Actionable recommendations: develop suggestions for improvement or changes based on the analysis.
- Presentation: convey the results to the target audience
- Municipal Briefs etc.: compile regular electronic updates for municipalities on critical areas of law, policy, facts and data affecting the sector.
Coordination:
- Support the coordination of development of the unit’s applications including the Municipal Barometer, Municipal Violence Incident Dashboard, Municipal Capabilities Index Dashboard etc.
Information dissemination:
- Drive / support dissemination of the results to The Company and municipalities to facilitate informed decision-making and strategies based on data driven insights
Stakeholder Management:
- Support building of relationships, fostering communication, and ensuring stakeholders are informed, consulted, and possibly collaborating.
