Purpose of the post:
Editing and proofreading of official documents to ensure grammatical correctness, style, logic and consistency in order to guarantee professional results and maintain the image of the department.
 
Description of tasks:
Editing support to Chief Directorate: Science Communication (media invites, media releases, articles, etc.):
    • Edit documents for language, consistency, logical flow, style (as per the Department’s Style Guide) and presentation of documents, rewriting and shortening text when required, and ensuring an appropriate tone.
    • Verify the correctness of references to legislation, people, organisations and documents in text.
    • Liaise with the writers of documents to clarify meaning.
 
Editing support in respect of communications to external stakeholders (letters, invitations, Cabinet Memos, Parliamentary Questions, etc.):
    • Edit documents for language, consistency, logical flow, style (as per the Department’s Style Guide) and presentation of documents, rewriting and shortening text when required, and ensuring an appropriate tone;
    • Verify the correctness of references to legislation, people, organisations and documents in text.
    • Liaise with the writers of documents to clarify meaning.
 
Editing support in respect of internal documents (Exco and Opco minutes, submissions to
    • DG and Minister, HR and Finance documents, etc.):
    • Edit documents for language, consistency, logical flow, style (as per the Department’s Style Guide) and presentation of documents, rewriting and shortening text when required, and ensuring an appropriate tone;
    • Verify the correctness of references to legislation, people, organisations and documents in text.
    • Liaise with the writers of documents to clarify meaning.
 
Editing support in respect of publications (Annual Report, APP, strategies, reports, policy advice, conference booklets):
    • Edit documents for language, consistency, logical flow, style (as per the Department’s Style Guide) and presentation of documents, rewriting and shortening text when required, and ensuring an appropriate tone.
    • Verify the correctness of references to legislation, people, organisations and documents in text.
    • Liaise with the writers of documents to clarify meaning.

Minimum educational and experience requirements:
    • A tertiary qualification at NQF 6 preferably in Languages with English as a major
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in editing
