Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities:
- Cost estimation and take-offs for steel and concrete components
- Calculating quantities of reinforcement steel, structural steel, and different grades of concrete
- Measuring areas for formwork and shuttering
- Determining volumes for concrete pours
- Estimating labour requirements for steel fixing and concrete placement
- Specification writing and review
- Preparing detailed technical specifications for steel and concrete works
- Ensuring compliance with relevant building codes and standards
- Specifying concrete mix designs, strength requirements, and curing methods
- Detailing steel grades, sizes, and placement requirements
- Technical documentation
- Reviewing structural drawings and details
- Checking steel reinforcement schedules
- Verifying concrete pour sequences
- Documenting testing requirements for materials
- Cost control and monitoring
- Tracking material usage and wastage
- Monitoring steel and concrete costs against budget
- Analyzing price variations in steel and concrete markets
- Recommending cost-saving alternatives where appropriate
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in or Diploma in Quantity Surveying
- Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in Steel and Concrete
- Proficiency in industry-standard measurement and cost management software
- Strong understanding of steel and concrete
Technical Skills
- Expert knowledge of measurement principles and quantity take-off
- Proficient in steel and concrete planning and estimating
- Competent in using digital measurement tools and quantity surveying software
- Working knowledge of relevant building regulations and standards
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel
