Role Purpose
Our client, requires an experienced Safety Officer to oversee health and safety compliance at a construction site in Oatlands. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and monitoring site safety systems, ensuring full compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and promoting a strong safety culture among site personnel and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement, monitor and maintain the site Health and Safety Plan in line with the OHS Act and Construction Regulations.
- Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits, identifying and addressing hazards and non-conformances.
- Facilitate toolbox talks, safety inductions and ongoing safety training for site staff and subcontractors.
- Investigate incidents, near-misses and accidents; compile reports and recommend corrective action.
- Maintain accurate safety files, registers and documentation for site audits and client/regulatory review.
- Liaise with site management, contractors and the client on all safety-related matters.
- Ensure PPE compliance and correct use of safety equipment across the site.
- Coordinate with the Department of Labour and other relevant authorities as required.
- Stop unsafe work practices and enforce corrective measures where necessary.
Requirements
- Registered with the SACPCMP (South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions) as a Safety Officer – essential.
- Relevant Safety Management qualification (e.g. SAMTRAC or equivalent).
- Proven experience as a Safety Officer on construction sites.
- Sound working knowledge of the OHS Act and Construction Regulations.
- Valid driver’s licence and own transport.
- Strong communication, reporting and interpersonal skills.
Willingness to be based on site in Oatlands, Port Shepstone.
